Hamideh Parhiz, PharmD., PhD.
Principal Investigator
Hamideh is an Assistant Professor of Systems Pharmacology and Translational Therapeutics at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. She leads the targeted lipid nanoparticles (tLNP) delivery program and is the co-director of the Targeting Core at the Penn Institute for RNA Innovation. Her expertise lies in developing novel nucleic acid delivery systems, particularly a new generation of targeted LNP-mRNA therapeutics for various applications. Her work on designing an efficient targeted LNP-mRNA platform serves as the foundation for product development in companies such as Capstan Therapeutics and AbbVie. The Parhiz Lab focuses on investigating novel nucleic acid-based delivery systems and understanding the mechanisms that enhance their effectiveness. The lab develops strategies to deliver nucleic acids not only to the tissue of interest but also to specific target cells, achieving the high specificity required for in vivo cell engineering. The mRNA-based in vivo CAR T technology that her team has contributed to developing at UPenn is now recognized as one of the fastest transitions from laboratory research to clinical application.
